Explore the best of nature and adventure during your stay at Evergreen Forest Cabins. Located just minutes away from the breathtaking Pacific Rim National Park, the scenic Wild Pacific Trail, and the charming town of Ucluelet, there’s no shortage of things to see and do. Whether you’re looking for relaxation or adventure, we’ve got you covered.
We provide private boat tours on the waters surrounding The Pacific Rim. These are not one size fits all tours. Every crew's ideal experience, just like every day on the ocean, varies based on each group's particular needs. With our approach, we are able to place our focus solely on creating and facilitating the right experience for your crew.
Bask in the scenery of our rugged coastline as we travel out of the Ucluelet Inlet and towards Barkley Sound and The Broken Group Islands. Immerse yourself in our local marine ecosystem, home to a diverse group of marine mammals, from Sea Otters and Sea Lions, to Humpback and Grey Whales.
On our Ucluelet whale watching tours we most commonly see Humpback Whales and Grey Whales in their historical inshore feeding grounds. The first of the whales show in February as they migrate north along the west side of Vancouver Island en route to Alaska. Whales begin to congregate inshore in anticipation of the spring Herring spawn which brings hundreds of marine mammals and birds together for a feeding frenzy in our local waters. Later on, the whales settle into their summer territories where we see them from Long Beach, all the way south through The Broken Group Islands and down towards Bamfield. Although Grey Whales and Humpback Whales are our most common whale sightings, we are part of the Transient Killer (Orca) Whale's territory and welcome the occasional visit from them as well.
Our whale watching tours commonly see a mirage of marine life as we cruise through the islands. Keep an eye out for Sea Otters, Steller and California Sea Lions, Porpoise, Bald Eagles, and Black Bears combing the beaches.

Bear watching along the shoreline of Barkley Sound is a must-see experience when visiting Ucluelet. During low tide, black bears often emerge from the dense rainforest to forage for food, skillfully turning over large rocks in search of crabs.
It’s not uncommon to spot mother bears teaching their cubs the art of hunting along the shoreline. In addition to bears, this area is rich in wildlife, offering frequent sightings of bald eagles, seals, and sea lions, making it a captivating way to connect with the natural beauty of Ucluelet.

Ucluelet and Tofino are world class kayaking destinations, and it’s a kayaker’s paradise. Join a guided kayaking adventure tour within the Ucluelet Harbour (a true hidden kayaking gem). Kayaking the calm, sheltered waters of Ucluelet Harbour (approximately 3hrs) is an ideal way to discover the history, culture and industry of this working west coast harbour. Watch harbour seals, sea lions, eagles, bears and the occasional whale from your unique vantage point on the water. It does not get any better for an awesome getaway!
“A stunningly beautiful hike along the coast.", “Breathtakingly wild yet extraordinarily accessible.” The Wild Pacific Trail is a 7-phase trail system along the West Coast’s rugged cliffs and shoreline. You’ll discover spectacular shoreline panoramas and hike through ancient cedar and spruce-filled forest. This trail is a spectacular hike at any time of the year, from sunrise to sunset.
Visitors to the Ucluelet Aquarium can expect an up close and personal encounter with a diversity of local marine life. They provide a stimulating “hands-on” learning environment for people of all ages. All of the display specimens were gathered in local waters right outside the aquarium’s doorstep. Come and pay a visit to one of the most famous lighthouses in the world! The lighthouse is easily found and well-marked. It offers amazing sunrise and sunset views and if you are lucky, you might see some whales from the rocky shoreline. One of the nicest things to do while at the Lighthouse is to complete The Lighthouse Loop Walk. It is just 2.5km and part of the Wild Pacific Trail. It offers dramatic views of Barkley Sound. This loop can be completed in 45-60 minutes and offers several viewpoints and bench lookouts.
Thornton Creek Enhancement Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to sustaining and building salmon stocks in Barkley Sound and facilitating educational opportunities for locals and visitors alike.
A visit to the hatchery is a wonderful activity in the fall season. The creek is small enough to allow for great viewing opportunities as the salmon swim upstream and choose their spawning grounds. The presence of salmon brings wildlife to the river as they look to feast on the nutrient rich chum, coho, and chinook salmon.
From the beginning of September to mid-November the hatchery is generally open 10 am to 3 pm. Please check their website for up to date hours and schedules: https://www.thorntoncreekhatchery.com/
